Q: Last night, as with every night, I had my TV Viewing Schedule carefully planned out. (TV Trivia is not something to be taken lightly, you know.) Just as I was sitting down in my favorite bean bag chair, Fiona called me to ask for advice on her new album, dating, etc. Being a good friend, I cast the tube aside and gave her my full attention. Well, it turns out that we talked for so long that I completely missed Three's Company. Can you please tell me what happened?

A: Every Three's Company episode has the same basic plot (elaborate misunderstanding with sexual innuendoes), so most anything you made up about the missed episode would be correct. I got a lot of wonderfully creative answers to this question. Here's one of my favorites:

Well, the traditional Three's Company episode would go something like this: Jack sees girl...Jack wants girl...girl wants Jack...girl's husband/ boyfriend/ brother/ Uncle/ pet dog tries to keep them apart...Janet and Terri/Chirssie help him together or unwittingly sabotage him by trying to help separately...someone kisses somebody in the kitchen...somebody tries to explain it off...a bra is found on the floor and is assumed to be someone's but it is actually somebody elses....Larry tries to rope Jack into a win/ win money deal and loses all the rent money...Mr.... Furly/Mr. Roper tries to collect the rent money...finally the rent money is saved, the kiss is explained, the bra is given back to its rightful owner, Jack does not get the girl and so Mr. Furly and Mr. Roper still believe that Jack is a...(picture Mr. Furly dinging a tinkerbell)

Q: Remember the good old days of television? The days before remote controls and cable boxes? Okay, maybe those times weren't so great. Nonetheless, today's question relates to a device that went the way of the rotary phone: the mechanical rotary tuning knob, the device that provided a reasurring ka-CHUNK with each change of your mind. If you wanted to change the channel, you had to really want to change the channel. Yes, it was the only era where you could develop the forearms of a boxer just by watching television.

So, after a full paragraph of useless introduction, I bring you today's question: What range of channels were covered by the VHF knob? For a bonus point, what do VHF and UHF stand for?

A: VHF covers channels 2-13 and stands for Very High Frequency. UHF stands for Ultra High Frequency and covers channels 14-69. Since I'm sure you're all interested, I've included the official FCC specifications regarding Frequency Band Nomenclature and Television Channel Frequencies. Print 'em out and snuggle with someone you love.
