After having built St. Petersburg, Peter the Great needed an efficient way to get people back and forth fom Moscow. A railroad connecting the two cities seemed an ideal choice.
So, using a map and a ruler, he laid out the perfect route.
And the railroad was built exactly as he had drawn.
